Canon Abilities:
Vidyadhara are the elf-like people who live very long lives and reincarnate at the end of their lives. The strongest of them can become dragons. None are more powerful than those designated as High Elders. Dan Heng is the reincarnation of Dan Feng, the previous high elder. He can manipulate water and summon it to his aid. He can use it to guise himself and hide away his true form. Cloud hymn magic uses the water he summons to form illusions, form or break seals, do devastating damage, and heal.

Dan Heng is limited to the more destructive side of those powers. For now. He uses this power in combat to shape a dragon of water to hit enemies from afar. He can float above the ground and even be a dragon. But falling into the more draconic part of his nature makes it hard for him to relate to others. Lucky for him, that his folkmore dragon shifting doesn't have that issue.

Role Reasoning: Dan Heng is caught between the past that dogs his steps with burning eyes and the life of a traveler among the stars. If one were put to rest and those who hold it to let go, he could be unchained from one side. But this is not the case. He hides who he is. He covers up his true self with an illusion. What potential exists if he had the freedom to embrace himself? How much peace would he find if the shadow of his old life could fade?

The answer is a great deal. But no, he is between. Unable to be free. And others look at him and see the ghosts of what was.

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
The most traumatic experience Dan Heng has ever endured are his first moments as Dan Heng. He woke up in a dark place wrapped in chains. He didn’t know what he had done or why. But anyone who saw him looked at him with hatred. It was General Jing Yuan coming to free him that took him from that torment. Yet, the looks of hate didn’t end as he was escorted in chains to the docks.

He reflected upon the beauty around him. Possibly as a coping mechanism for how much he was enduring so soon. But he holds no hate or bitterness for his banishment. Only pain.

What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why? The people of the Astral Express are deeply important to Dan Heng. Himeko offered him a place on the the Express. Welt was a calming presence as well, the pair of the them giving him a space to belong. Long before he even realized he had found a place to stay.

March for all the ribbing and remarks he has, he still sees her attitude as a strength. He accepts Caelus into their number without question. These people are his and he belongs to them. One of the nameless, wandering the stars and fixing problems. All of them holding their secrets but supporting each other through them.

What are your characters dreams and nightmares? Do you believe they are more likely to obtain one rather than the other? It has been Dan Heng’s dream to finally be free of the past. It would be nice to have the freedom to just be himself. If he could decide what his self is and be allowed to choose that, it would be incredibly ideal. And his worst nightmare is being forced to deal with a past that isn’t his. He doesn’t want people to look at him and judge him based on the man he used to be. Yet it is so likely his worst nightmare - facing that past and being chained to it, is the more likely of the two.

Yet, he yearns for the first. The idea of no longer being hunted and able to be a trailblazer without ties to anything but the Express? Heaven.

What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
Once he was banished, he stopped caring about anything beyond protecting ships he was on and moving on. No attachment. No staying for long. He didn’t want to. But he was also hunted. Until he ran into Himeko of the Astral Express.

No one expected anything of him besides what he agreed to give. His voice and opinion mattered. He didn’t think he would stay, but it ended up being a safe space. Before he knew it he had spent many days and nights on the train. He became one of the crew. He is at his most relaxed when he works on keeping the train archive up to date.

What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already? Dan Heng isn’t a self destructive person. Nor is he the sort of person to sacrifice others for his own sake. It is more likely he would lay down his life or face the things he doesn’t want to face. He is willing to do that only for people he cares for to save them from danger.

In essence, he is willing to sacrifice himself. But it through the sacrifice of himself to save others that he can reach the goal of unlocking his full potential. It is only through being backed against a wall will he rise with honor to uphold duty and shield others. Again, meeting the potential within.
